Synthesizing and communicating clearly is expressing main ideas in a way that is concise and clear, either through writing, talking, or electronic formats. My Leadership 490 Capstone course and I exercised this core competency all semester long by practicing on real-world issues. We partnered with Aspiria, a high school in Newark, Delaware, where we conducted bi-weekly sessions to create and present leadership-themed lessons to their students. At the end of the semester, we organized an interactive workshop, including an escape box challenge. The activity was designed by my team to include puzzles and riddles on leadership concepts that the students needed to resolve in groups and apply essential communication and conflict-resolution abilities. This hands-on experience not only allowed us to practice expressing ourselves clearly but also allowed the students to absorb good leadership qualities like active listening and teamwork. The activity showed how clear communication facilitates understanding and empowering others.
